Systems architecting is the art and science of purpose determination, concept formulation, and certification for use. It is, in my view, a sub-discipline within systems engineering, being that subset most concerned with aforementioned three activities. Student satellites are satellites, built, launched, and operated by primarily student teams. More generally, this is the topic of very low cost satellites built and operated by "amateur" groups. There have been quite a few successful projects, and many more in the pipeline. The student satellite pages provide links to projects and lessons learned.
